Stalker who made woman's life 'living hell' banned from Selby – for life

A repeat stalker who hounded his ex-partner until her life became a “living hell” has been jailed and told he is to be banned from entering Selby for the rest of his life.

Despite having only been out of the nick for a few months since his last stretch – over four breaches of an existing restraining order designed to protect his victim – Daniel Paszkowski, 41, bombarded his ex with calls and confronted her in the street.

On 9 June Paszkowski approached the victim on Abbey Walk where, despite being reminded of the court order that forbade him from contacting her, he grabbed the woman by her scarf and tried to kiss her.

Prosecutor, Michael Cahill told York Crown Court that over the following days, Paszkowski would bombard her with some 91 phone calls – 83 of which in a single day, leading the victim to report the matter to local cops. Just days later, Paszkowski was seen loitering outside a location where he knew his victim frequented.

In a victim impact statement, the woman told the court, "The day he approached me I felt so much fear as to what he could do. He has left a lasting impact on my life."

With a string of previous convictions on his record, many of which for violent offences  – both in the United Kingdom and in his native Poland – Judge Sean Morris handed down a sentence of three years and nine months inside and extended the existing restraining order to prevent Paszkowski from entering all of Selby indefinitely.

In a scathing rebuke, he described Paszkowski's confronting of his victim in the street as 'despicable', adding, "This woman doesn’t belong to you. You are going to have to learn that lesson and you are going to have to learn the lesson of obeying court orders."
